WNBA fans minced no words, tearing into former 4x WNBA champion Sheryl Swoopes for clapping back at Nancy Lieberman and Stephen A. Smith. Firing off a response to Lieberman's reveal that the duo fell out, Swoopes, who has been in the spotlight for her comments on Caitlin Clark, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation.
She blasted Lieberman and Smith, saying her life was better without the duo.
"Now here you go! I get what you trying to do wit ya boy @stephenasmith but it ain't working. You know good and well what happened. And ditto...my life is good without you too(and him). You wanna go there?"
One of the fans did not hold back.
"Dude you are an insane narcissist. Hire a PR team quick."
More backlash followed suit. @mastenbrook wrote:
"Pipe down Sheryl Swoopes. Your hate for CC is sooooo obvious. Time for you to go to pasture."
@ajgraves added:
"I’m fairly convinced you’ve kept your personality stuck in middle school mode lol. You keep digging yourself in a grave just because you’re petty and jealous of a 22 year old’s success..lol"
@macros114 tweeted:
"Not sure where the nastiness and hatred is coming from, but you’re struggling. You were an excellent player, but there’s only one Jordan in basketball and it ain’t you."
@minihulk said:
"Can you please end this pointless drama? You're a legend in the world of basketball and all you're doing is proving to them that there's some resentment towards a 22 year old."
The drama comes after Sheryl Swoopes was absent from her duties as a broadcaster for one of Clark's games. This was followed by Lieberman's interview with Smith, where Swoopes came under criticism and saw her lash out at the duo.
Sheryl Swoopes shares private texts with Caitlin Clark amid ongoing furor
Earlier, Sheryl Swoopes shared private texts with Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark amid all the ongoing melee about her hate for the young guard. Swoopes came under immense criticism after she missed calling the game where Clark played the Wings. With fan allegations calling her a Clark hater, she shared a series of screengrabs.
The WNBA icon took to X to share private text messages between her and Clark that were sent on February 5 earlier this year. Swoopes's message was rather positive.
"Hey Caitlin! I wanted to personally reach out to you and say I made a mistake on what year this is for you. Covid year has me all confused...Lol! I also have nothing but respect for you and your game and appreciate your skill. Congrats on everything you have accomplished thus far. Be blessed".
It remains to be seen if this drama ends by the end of the regular season. As for Clark and the Fever, the side has risen to heights after a dastardly 1-8 start to the season.
