French star Gabby Williams had a cheeky response to Las Vegas Aces guard Sydney Colson who trolled her on social media over her buzzer-beater against the United States in the finals of the women's basketball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Sunday.
Williams, who used to play for Chicago and Seattle in the WNBA but now plays in Europe, had the chance to tie the highly competitive game between the U.S. and France at the end of regulation.
Down by three, 67-64, the French forward got a pass off the break with a second to go and pulled up for a buzzer-beating triple which went it. Unfortunately, her foot was found to be inside the three-point line, leaving the shot as just two points, sending them to the 67-66 defeat.
Colson, a member of the back-to-back WNBA champions Aces, shared a photo of Gabby Williams on X, formerly Twitter, after she realized that her shot was only two points, writing on her post:
"Great game @gabbywilliams15 but I know u'll like this"
To which the French forward cheekily responded with:
"syd, you lucky i have a sense of humor"

Despite settling for a silver in the Paris Games, Gabby Williams had herself a solid Olympic campaign, finishing with averages of 15.5 points, 4.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals in 27 minutes of play to earn a spot in the tournament's All-Star Five. She joined MVP A'ja Wilson (USA), Breanna Stewart (USA), Alanna Smith (Australia) and Emma Meesseman (Belgium).
Gabby Williams has mixed emotions about how their Olympic campaign ended
While happy to have helped France earn a silver medal in the women's basketball tournament of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Gabby Williams could not help but rue the missed opportunity to end the United States's golden run.
27-year-old Williams and the French squad took Team USA to the limit in the finals on Sunday but just fell short, 67-66.
Following the game, she opened up about what went down in the championship game, saying:
"Mixed emotions. Because we were, of course, so close. There's a million things you wish you could change at the end. It's time to just be happy with what we've done and just think about the positive things. I'm not going to sit on the negative. There are so many great things we did.
"Super proud of what we've done. Super happy to have this medal. I hope we made our country proud."
Gabby Williams had the opportunity to send the championship game to overtime but her buzzer-beating triple was ruled only a two-pointer to preserve the victory for the U.S. The championship was the eighth straight gold medal for the U.S. women's basketball team.
