The Rookie of the Year (ROTY) race between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will heat up in the second half of the WNBA season. After a month-long hiatus to give way to the Paris Olympics, the highly anticipated duel between the two rivals will resume. Clark and Reese, both trying to lead their respective teams to the playoffs, are expected to be even better when action returns on Thursday.

Clark started the season as the heavy favorite to bag the ROTY award. But, the “Chi Barbie” proved the doubters wrong by making it a two-way race to the finish line. In the eyes of some, Reese had even overtaken Clark with a strong finishing mid-season surge.

YouTuber Sniper Jones gave his take on the riveting battle between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese:

"If anything, they [WNBA] might let them share [ROTY award]. … The skill gap, the skill gap is enormous! It’s a football field! The skill gap is a football field, my ni**a, between them.”

Jones conceded that skills “are not everything,” but the difference in that department between the two rookies is too hard to ignore. The content creator added:

“Caitlin is very skilled. She’s one of the best passers in women’s basketball. F**k women! She’s one of the best passers I’ve seen with the basketball. Period. Shifty as f**k. Handles is crazy. Shooting is a skill”

Sniper Jones acknowledged Angel Reese has better rebounding and putback skills but for him, it shouldn’t be a question of who is the better rookie. Jones, though, had this to say about who will go home with the trophy:

“I doubt she [Clark] wins it. I think she deserves it. I’ll be very surprised if she wins it.”

For Jones, Caitlin Clark might not win the ROTY because many are envious of the Indiana Fever point guard. According to him, “none of them like her” because of all the attention basketball fans have been showing her.

The major WNBA awards will be voted on by a panel of sportswriters and journalists. Regardless of who wins, the debate surrounding Clark and Reese isn’t going to die anytime soon.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will face each other again before the playoffs

Caitlin Clark holds a 2-1 edge in the regular season against Angel Reese. She led the Indiana Fever to back-to-back home victories before Reese and the Chicago Sky defended their home-court advantage. On Aug. 30, the two will meet for the fourth and final time before the playoffs start.

Before the resumption of games on Thursday, the Fever and the Sky are desperately clinging to the last two ticket rides to the playoffs. Indiana is seventh with an 11-15 record while Chicago is a rung below with a 10-14 mark. With 14 games remaining for all WNBA teams, the battle for the final playoff spots will be intense.

The neck-and-neck battle for the ROTY award between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will be even bigger when they square off against each other. With the rankings at stake, the winner might get the leg up in the highly monitored race. Basketball fans likely have Aug. 30 already encircled in their calendars.
