The Phoenix Mercury will host the Las Vegas Aces at Footprint Center on Sunday. The defending WNBA champions clinched a spot in the playoffs with their latest 83-72 win against the Atlanta Dream. On the contrary, the Mercury are still on their quest for a playoff position.
The Aces have not been the same dominant force they were before the Olympic break. Since the season resumed, they have struggled to secure a strong footing and win games. Although they are the fourth team in the WNBA standings, they have lost four out of their last seven games since the break ended.
The Mercury are not on a great run of form either, as they are currently on a two-game losing streak, with their latest loss coming via the Minnesota Lynx with a final score of 89-76. Phoenix had started the season strong, winning three games after losing in the opening matchup. However, midway through the season, the team started to struggle with consistency.
At this point, Las Vegas will try to get back its rhythm as a team and prepare for the postseason games, which should be its higher priority given that it is aiming for a three-peat.
