The Phoenix Mercury finished last season with a 19-21 record but still made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed. However, the Mercury were swept by the Minnesota Lynx in the first round. The latest free agency prediction this offseason has a former WNBA Finals MVP returning to the league and joining Phoenix.

According to The Athletic's Sabreena Merchant, former Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky star Emma Meesseman is one of the top free agents this offseason. Meesseman last played in the league in 2022, spending the past two seasons with Fenerbahce in Turkey.

Merchant predicted that the Mercury would go after Meesseman due to their need for a power forward. The team already has Natasha Cloud and Kahleah Copper, so they have a solid team under coach Nate Tibbetts.

Diana Taurasi, on the other hand, is still mulling her future at age 42, while Brittney Griner is set to test out free agency.

"The Mercury have one of the league’s best facilities, and Meesseman also has prior relationships with Cloud from Washington, Copper from Chicago, and Diana Taurasi and Griner from UMMC Ekaterinburg," Merchant wrote via The Athletic. "With several high-basketball IQ veterans in Phoenix, it could be a comfortable environment for Meesseman."

Emma Meesseman was drafted in the second round by the Washington Mystics in 2013. Meesseman primarily came off the bench as a rookie before turning into one of the best players in her position in the WNBA. She got her crowning moment in 2019 when he helped the Mystics win the championship.

She left the Mystics in 2020 and stayed abroad amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She signed with the Chicago Sky in 2022 before opting to play overseas again for the past two years. She helped Fenerbahce win back-to-back EuroLeague titles, as well as two EuroLeague MVPs.

The Belgian international also led her nation to the gold medal in the 2023 EuroBasket. The Phoenix Mercury could certainly benefit from having a player like Meesseman on their roster for the upcoming season.

The Phoenix Mercury have four free agents this offseason, mainly franchise legends Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner. Taurasi is still mulling her future and is considering retirement, while Griner recently revealed that she'll be testing the free agency waters for the first time in her career.

According to Spotrac, the Mercury have plenty of cap space to bring both players back if they want to. This year's free agency class is also likely to just sign one-year deals due to the new CBA getting implemented in 2026, which includes a salary increase.

Taurasi has been with Phoenix since 2004, while Griner has been there since 2013. They were both No. 1 draft picks and have established themselves as two of the greatest players in Mercury history.
