Samantha Allison Whitcomb is an American-Australian professional basketball player, who plays for the Seattle Storm, as of September 2024. She was a student at Buena High School where she was awarded the 2004-05 Co-County Player of the Year by the league coaches and was also the Ventura County Star's 2005–06 Girls' Basketball Player of the Year. Whitcomb went on to play basketball for the University of Washington after her time at the high school. She was not drafted in the 2010 WNBA Draft but was able to play for various teams overseas, especially in Australia where she played for the Rockingham Flames and the Perth Lynx where she received 3 SBL MVP awards.

Whitcomb’s hard work was rewarded when she signed for the Seattle Storm in 2017 and went on to win WNBA titles in 2018 and 2020. She naturalized in Australia in 2018 and has been playing for the Australian Opals in international tournaments including the Olympics and the FIBA World Cup. In his personal life, Whitcomb is married to former basketball player Kate Malpass and they have two sons, as of September 2024.

Whitcomb’s junior year was also a year of progression with her averaging 12.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

Sami Whitcomb High School

Sami Whitcomb played high school basketball at Buena High School in Ventura, California. She was a four-year letter winner and was a team captain for one year. Whitcomb was able to showcase her skills right from her freshman year and she received many awards such as the Ventura County Star Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year for the 2005/2006 season.

She was also a three-time first-team All-Channel League and All-Ventura County selection and a two-time Co-Channel League MVP. In her last year in high school, Whitcomb scored an average of 17.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game. Whitcomb was also a two-letter athlete in track and field and was second in the league in shot put during her sophomore year.
