The Las Vegas Aces will look to punch their ticket to the second round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs when they host the Seattle Storm at the Michelob ULTRA Arena on Tuesday (Sep. 24). After landing the first punch with a 78-67 win on Sunday, the 2x defending champions will be keen to iron out their creases and notch up a convincing win.
The Storm did a lot right in the first quarter when they carved an 18-9 lead. They double-teamed and often triple-teamed 3x WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson.
They forced the Aces shooters for tough buckets, and more importantly, figured out a way to explode and penetrate their defense.
But they were simply outplayed by Las Vegas' renewed energy and better defensive efforts in the second half. It didn't help that Seattle's offense sputtered right when they had their nose ahead.
The Storm had no way to land a basket to buy a win. Their last points came in the third quarter, and they made two hits from the free-throw line in the fourth with 4:07 remaining.
Closing out the series is easier said than done as the visitors produced flashes of defiance throughout the game. This makes Game 2 of the series between the two teams all the more intense when they meet on Tuesday.

Seattle Storm vs Las Vegas Aces preview
The onus will be on Jewell Loyd, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Nneka Ogwumike as Seattle finds itself in a win-or-go-home situation. Loyd was a no-show in the first game, managing just six points.
Ogwumike's DD2 (13 points and 10 rebounds) went in vain, while Gabby Williams tried to inject some momentum into their offense with 14 points.
The three-point shooting needs to shore up if they intend to stand a chance of beating the Aces. Their shooting vanished in the final stretch and that's a correction they will be making in the upcoming matchup.
The Aces were a better unit defensively, but their reliance on A'ja Wilson is a cause for concern. Kelsey Plum will look to shrug off the bad night on Sunday, mustering just two points.
Tiffany Hayes was their spark off the bench with 20 points. Las Vegas is an offense-first unit and will hope their shooters fire into form to close out the series.
Seattle Storm vs Las Vegas Aces predicted starting lineup
Expect both sides to field the same starters as the last game. The Storm will have Jewell Loyd and Skylar Diggins-Smith taking guard duties. Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Wiliams form the frontcourt with Mercedes Russell at center.
The Aces will see Chelsea Gray take over the floor general role. Kelsey Plum slots in as the shooting guard. Jackie Young and A'ja Wilson form the frontcourt with Kiah Stokes at the five.
Seattle Storm vs Las Vegas Aces prediction
The Las Vegas Aces are expected to win this contest. While the Storm executed their gameplans to perfection in the first quarter of Game 1, the Aces ensured that the game plan had to be ripped up.
Their offense has been an issue and that puts the Aces in pole position to take the series. Chalk up a win for the 2x defending champions.
