Teaira McCowan is the starting center for the Dallas Wings in the WNBA as of September 2024. Born on September 28, 1996, McCowan was drafted #3 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2019 WNBA Draft. McCowan made an immediate impact in her rookie season and quickly established herself as one of the league’s top centers. Her first game in the WNBA was memorable as she delivered a buzzer-beating layup for the Fever.

By the end of her debut WNBA season, McCowan was named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team, and she finished second in the league in rebounding. She also scored a career-high 24 points in three games that season. After three seasons with Indiana Fever, McCowan was traded to the Dallas Wings in March 2022. As of September 2024, McCowan is averaging 11.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in the 2024 WNBA season. In addition to the WNBA, McCowan has also played with Galatasaray in the Turkish Women's Basketball Super League.

Teaira McCowan's college career at Mississippi State University was from 2015 to 2019. Despite struggling in her freshman year, Teaira McCowan showed flashes of her potential under head coach Vic Schaefer. Her impressive performances throughout the season earned her a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2016. In McCowan's sophomore year with the Bulldogs, she blossomed into a legitimate sixth man, winning SEC Sixth Player of the Year. Her efforts off the bench were key for the Bulldogs, as they reached the 2017 SEC Title Game as well as the NCAA Championship game, where they ultimately lost in both finals to South Carolina, led by A'ja Wilson.

In her junior year, Teaira McCowan became a sensational rebounder and post player as she grabbed an SEC-record 544 rebounds in a single season, the second-most in NCAA history. During the 2018 NCAA Tournament, McCowan became the only player in tournament history to record multiple 20-point, 20-rebound games. In the Sweet 16 of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, McCowan went 11-for-11 from the field against NC State, tying NCAA Tournament history single-game record for field-goal percentage. By her senior year, McCowan had firmly established herself as a surefire WNBA lottery pick.

Teaira McCowan college career at Mississippi State from 2015 to 2019 was historic, as she finished her career 4th in all-time scoring for Mississippi State University Bulldogs with 1,942 points. Moreover, McCowan was ranked 1st in field goal percentage, with a jaw-dropping 59.7% from the field. She also became MSU's all-time leading rebounder, pulling down an astounding 1,502 rebounds, and was ranked 2nd in career blocks with 271 in her four years for the Bulldogs.

Teaira McCowan is the all-time leading rebounder in NCAA Tournament history with 240 total rebounds, as of September 2024. Throughout McCowan's college career, she garnered numerous honors and accolades such as SEC Player of the Year by both the AP and the Coaches, SEC Defensive Player of the Year award, and WBCA Defensive Player of the Year. She was also named as a WBCA All-American, ESPNW First Team All-American, and AP First Team All-American.
