The 2012 WNBA MVP, Tina Alexandria Charles, plays for the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA as of September 2024. She was born on December 5, 1988, in New York City, New York, U.S. For her school performance at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York, she was named “Miss Basketball” for New York State. She played college basketball at the University of Connecticut from 2006 to 2010. During her junior and senior seasons with the UConn Huskies, she achieved remarkable success, becoming a 2-time NCAA champion (2009, 2010). She was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2009 and earned several awards in 2010, including the AP Player of the Year, the John R. Wooden Award, the Naismith College Player of the Year, and the USBWA National Player of the Year.

In the 2010 WNBA draft, Charles was selected the number one overall pick by the Connecticut Sun. She is a legend in the sport, holding the number one spot for All-Time Rebounds in the WNBA (2024) and ranking second in All-Time Points Scored (2024). She was also named to the WNBA 25th Anniversary Team in 2021. In addition to these achievements, she has been an 8-time WNBA All-Star and made the All-WNBA First Team five times. Despite all her accomplishments, she has never won a WNBA championship in her career. She has won three Olympic gold medals representing Team USA's women's basketball team.
