With only two games separating the two teams in the WNBA playoff race, it is do or die as the Chicago Sky take on the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.

The Mystics may well hold the mental edge going into this game, as they lead 2-1 in the regular season series. They defeated the Sky 83-81 at Entertainment & Sports Arena in June and followed it up with a 74-70 victory at Wintrust Arena in August.

The Sky are going through an injury crisis. Diamond DeShields remains out with an ankle injury and it is unknown when she will return. Angel Reese will not play any further part this season after suffering a wrist injury last week.

Reese joined a long list of injured players along with Elizabeth Williams.

Isabelle Harrison stepped in for Reese in the last game, delivering a 21-point performance. She is expected to start again on Wednesday along with Kamilla Cardoso, Chennedy Carter, Michaela Onyenwere and Lindsay Allen.

Washington Mystics vs Chicago Sky Preview

The Sky cling onto hope

The Sky have been very inconsistent of late. Chicago has picked up three wins from 11 games after the Olympic break, and two of those were against bottom-placed Los Angeles Sparks. Their only other win in this run came against the 11th-placed Dallas Wings.

Despite the poor run, the Sky occupy the eighth and final playoff spot with five games left.

Desperate times for the resurgent Mystics

After a below-par first half of the season, the Mystics have hit form at the perfect time. Eric Thibault’s team is in 10th place after winning five of 10 games since the Olympic break.

They trail the Sky by two games, but a victory would mount further pressure on Chicago and make for an exciting playoff race.
