Indiana Fever's newly appointed coach Stephanie White couldn't stop raving about Caitlin Clark's impact during Iowa's Sweet 16 game against Colorado in March 2024 during the NCAA women's basketball tournament.
White, who was commentating on the game on broadcast, had much praise for Clark who put up an impeccable performance to help Iowa advance to the Elite Eight stage with a 89-68 win.
Clark concluded the game with a double-double performance of 29 points, 15 assists, six rebounds and a block, shooting 53.8%.
"Clark already has 20 in this ball game, she has been exceptional finding her open teammates, picking her spots, getting to the rim, finishing with contact, in typical Caitlin Clark fashion," White said.
Not long after taking charge as coach of the Fever, Stephanie White revealed on the 'Coaching U' podcast how she's watched Caitlin Clark grow and discussed ways for the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year to elevate her game.
"I started watching Caitlin Clark since she was in eighth grade, and then I called a lot of her games in college when she was in Iowa. And so I've really watched her continue to learn and grow," White said.
"I had great relationships with her coaches and had multiple conversations about what her next steps would be, and what the next level would be. She's hungry to grow and hungry to get better.
"My first conversation with her the other day about Xs and Os was like, 'Well how do you want to improve?' And then we'll talk about how we want to do that. And then I talk about how we can use her and help her but more efficient and more effective in general."
Stephanie White previously served as the coach for the Connecticut Sun, who eliminated the Indiana Fever in the first round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs.
Stephanie White makes thoughts clear as she gives targets to Caitlin Clark
On the 'Coaching U' podcast last month, Stephanie White revealed the target she has given Caitlin Clark ahead of the next season:
"She's a great player, she's a high IQ player," White said. "She adjusted really quickly to this league, unbelievably quickly. And now it's about becoming not just a great player but a great leader for this team, so we can win not just a championship but championships."
Led by Clark, the Indiana Fever made the WNBA playoffs last season for the first time since 2016. With the onboarding of Stephanie White ahead of the next season, the Fever will look to optimize its roster strength to have a deeper run in 2025.
