France women's basketball star Gabby Williams inked a rest-of-season contract with WNBA franchise Seattle Storm on Tuesday. The Storm decided to sign the free agent on the back of her stupendous performance for France at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The power forward is gearing up to begin her third stint with the Western Conference franchise in the best women's basketball league in the world. Since Seattle announced the signing, fans have been eagerly curious about when the French star will make her season debut.
When will Gabby Williams make her season debut for Seattle Storm?
Gabby Williams is likely to make her season debut for Seattle on Aug. 26 when they host the Washington Mystics at Climate Pledge Arena. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET.
In the official release, the Storm announced that Williams will join the team next week in Seattle and sport the No. 5 on the back of her jersey.
Seattle ended their three-game road trip with a hard-fought 83-77 win over the Mystics at Entertainment & Sports Arena on Tuesday. Jewell Loyd and Co. have a five-day break before they face the Mystics next on Monday.
Gabby Williams' contract with Seattle Storm
The French international inked a pro-rated veteran minimum $23,491 contract with the Seattle Storm for the rest of the season. The 2024 Paris Olympics silver medalist voiced her delight after signing with the Storm (via WNBA.com):
"I’m so excited to be joining the Storm for the rest of the season," Williams said.
"I feel more than ready to finally return to Seattle. I’ve missed the organization, my teammates and the fans so much. I absolutely can’t wait to come back and finish the season strong," she added.
Gabby Williams' performance at 2024 Paris Olympics
Gabby Williams led France's charge at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Playing at home, the star forward emerged as one of the best players in the competition. Her two-way play and the ability to make a game-changing impact on both ends of the floor were widely appreciated by hoops fans.
For her phenomenal performance, Williams was named the Best Defensive Player and included in the All-Star Five. The former Chicago Sky player averaged 15.5 points and 27.1 minutes per game at the Olympics.
She shot 48% from the field, including 31.8% from 3-point range. She also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
In the gold medal game against Team USA, Williams scored 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. She also added seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
