Team USA vs. Team WNBA will headline the 2024 WNBA All-Star Weekend. Instead of the usual East versus West format, the league tailored the event to help the Olympic women’s national basketball team train ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is a repeat of what happened in 2021 when the same setup was used for the Tokyo Olympics.
Three years ago, the Olympic-bound roster led by A’ja Wilson and Jewell Lloyd lost to the league selection. Wilson and Co. promised to take the rematch “seriously,” so some measure of revenge might be incoming.
The American team that will go to Paris is stacked from top to bottom. Besides Wilson and Lloyd, Cheryl Reeve can also count on Jackie Young, Alyssa Thomas, Diana Taurasi, Sabrina Ionescu and Kelsey Plum. Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner and reigning MVP Breanna Stewart are also on the roster.
Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller, who will guide the league’s selection, will also have plenty of firepower and skills at her disposal. DeWanna Bonner, Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray, Dearica Hamby, Brionna Jones, Jonquel Jones, Kayla McBride, Arike Ogunbowale and Nneka Ogwumike will be on Miller’s team.
The biggest subheading leading into the weekend will be the first team-up between rookies and rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Cheryl Miller will relish having both to unleash on their Paris-bound opponents.

Cheryl Reeve can close her eyes and not worry about who she will be able to pick from her roster. She could give fans what they want and open with Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, Diana Taurasi, Chelsea Gray and Jewell Loyd.

Cheryl Miller has to give in to popular demand and start both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. There is just too much hype, noise and interest for Miller not to open the game without those two rivals.
Nneka Ogwumike, Aliyah Boston and Arike Ogunbowale could also get the nod to complete the league’s first five.

Team USA vs. Team WNBA: Key matchups
Every matchup pitting players from both teams will be exciting. But there are one-on-one duels that might be more interesting than most.
Caitlin Clark vs. Diana Taurasi
After all the preseason talks about Diana Taurasi not liking Caitlin Clark, the two surprised many with their warm back-and-forth in the WNBA. Taurasi will be competing in her sixth Olympics, while Clark couldn’t make it. It will be an interesting battle, particularly because the Olympians will use it to prepare for the event in Paris.
Angel Reese vs. A’ja Wilson/Breanna Stewart
Angel Reese will have two of the best lining up across from her on Saturday. “Chi Barbie” has had some fierce battles with A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart in the regular season. Reese has held up pretty well against either superstar, but both will join forces in the All-Star Game.
