The WNBA is back after the Olympic break where Team USA took home another gold medal. A'ja Wilson was named tournament MVP. It might not count in her phenomenal campaign in the league, but it seems like she's got the WNBA MVP close to locked up.
Napheesa Collier is back from an injury that took her out of contention before the break, while Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu have shared the spotlight in New York. Alyssa Thomas continues to carry the Connecticut Sun and Caitlin Clark is almost ready to crash party.
Clark is the favorite to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, but she's also making waves in the MVP race. The latest odds from FanDuel sportsbook have the Indiana Fever star finishing second just behind Wilson. The Fever opened the second half of the regular season with two wins against teams with above .500 records.
WNBA 2024 Most Valuable Player Ladder - Week 11
#5 - Napheesa Collier | Forward | Minnesota Lynx
- Week 10 Ranking: NR
- Games Played (Week 11) - 2 GP (2 W, 0 L)
- Average (Week 11) - 23.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 3.5 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 20.3 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 3.6 APG, 2.2 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Napheesa Collier is back in the WNBA MVP ladder this week after starting the second half of the season on fire. Collier led the Minnesota Lynx to two wins over the Washington Mystics to remain third in the league standings.
If Collier can stay healthy, she could potentially finish in the top three in MVP voting for the first time in her career. She finished fifth in 2020, which was her second year in the league, and fourth last year.
#4 - Sabrina Ionescu | Guard | New York Liberty
- Week 10 Ranking: #4
- Games Played (Week 11) - 2 GP (2 W, 0 L)
- Average (Week 11) - 20.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 19.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 6.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Sabrina Ionescu remained in fourth for this week's WNBA ladder after helping the New York Liberty to two wins following the break. Ionescu has taken the next step this season and is no longer in the shadow of Breanna Stewart.
Ionescu has better odds of winning the MVP this season than her teammate, who won the award last year. She has been the dynamo of the Liberty team currently atop the WNBA standings with a record of 23-4.
#3 - Alyssa Thomas | Forward | Connecticut Sun
- Week 10 Ranking: #3
- Games Played (Week 11) - 2 GP (1 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 11) - 12.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 10.0 APG, 1.5 SPG 0.5 BPG
- Average (Season) - 11.5 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 7.8 APG, 1.5 SPG 0.5 BPG
Last year's WNBA MVP runner-up, Alyssa Thomas, continued her impressive season by almost averaging a triple-double this past week. Thomas might be playing great, but her stats have regressed compared to her 2023 campaign.
Nevertheless, the Connecticut Sun are in a position to make some noise in the playoffs. The addition of Marina Mabrey could take them to the next level, but Thomas will need to take over games when needed.
#2 - Breanna Stewart | Forward | New York Liberty
- Week 10 Ranking: #2
- Games Played (Week 11) - 2 GP (2 W, 0 L)
- Average (Week 11) - 22.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 19.6 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.5 BPG
The reigning WNBA MVP is still in second place for Week 11 after leading the New York Liberty to two wins after the break. As mentioned above, Breanna Stewart is already sharing the spotlight with Sabrina Ionescu but it doesn't matter since they are focused on winning a championship.
They came up short last year and the back-to-back defending champions Las Vegas Aces are struggling this season, so this year might be the perfect time to win it all. New York also beat the Aces this week 79-67 on the road, which is a statement win.
#1 - A'ja Wilson | Forward | Las Vegas Aces
- Week 10 Ranking: #1
- Games Played (Week 11) - 2 GP (1 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 11) - 29.0 PPG, 12.0 RPG, 0.0 APG, 4.0 SPG, 2.5 BPG
- Average (Season) - 27.3 PPG, 12.0 RPG, 2.2 APG, 2.0 SPG, 2.8 BPG
A'ja Wilson is still the heavy favorite to win the WNBA MVP award despite the Las Vegas Aces' poor performances this season. The Aces are currently sitting fourth in the standings and already have more losses than they did last season.
Nevertheless, Wilson is expected to win the MVP award regardless of where they finish in the standings. It's just a matter of who will make the race interesting toward the end of the season.
