Caitlin Clark made her debut on the WNBA Most Valuable Player ladder race last week at No. 3. She continued her amazing form in Week 13, helping the Indiana Fever win all of their three games. The Fever are now sixth in the standings and have a winning record with seven games left before the playoffs.
On the other hand, A'ja Wilson put any doubts about her MVP campaign to rest with two 40-point performances in Week 13. The 42 points she scored against the Dallas Wings are the most by any player this season and tied for the 18th-best scoring performance in WNBA history.
Let's look at the 2024 WNBA MVP ladder race for Week 13.
WNBA 2024 Most Valuable Player Ladder - Week 13
#5 - Alyssa Thomas | Forward | Connecticut Sun
- Week 12 Ranking: #5
- Games Played (Week 13) - 3 GP (2 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 13) - 8.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 5.0 APG, 1.3 SPG 0.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 10.9 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 7.6 APG, 1.6 SPG 0.5 BPG
Alyssa Thomas barely hangs on to the fifth spot in this week's WNBA MVP ladder race. Thomas remains a huge factor for the Connecticut Sun's successful season, even though her scoring has dropped.
The Sun went 2-1 last week, beating the Seattle Storm and Washington Mystics and losing to the Indiana Fever. The New York Liberty's Sabrina Ionescu finally had a healthy week and is right behind Thomas for next week's race.
#4 - Breanna Stewart | Forward | New York Liberty
- Week 12 Ranking: #4
- Games Played (Week 13) - 2 GP (1 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 13) - 32.0 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 20.5 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 3.9 APG, 1.8 SPG, 1.3 BPG
The reigning WNBA MVP had a fantastic week and is closing in on her best heading into the playoffs. Breanna Stewart was nearly unstoppable, although the New York Liberty's loss to the lowly LA Sparks prevented her from moving up this list.
Stewart is still putting up great numbers, and the Liberty have the best record in the league. However, it's hard not to argue that Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu have been equally important for New York this season.
#3 - Napheesa Collier | Forward | Minnesota Lynx
- Week 12 Ranking: #2
- Games Played (Week 13) - 3 GP (2 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 13) - 14.7 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 4.0 APG, 0.7 SPG, 1.7 BPG
- Average (Season) - 20.4 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 3.6 APG, 1.9 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Napheesa Collier dropped to No. 3 in this week's WNBA MVP ladder race after a subpar three-game Week 13. Collier struggled from the field and didn't reach 20 points in any of those games.
Nevertheless, the Minnesota Lynx still managed to go 2-1 after beating the Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky. Their lone loss came against the Dallas Wings, who have the second-worst record in the league.
#2 - Caitlin Clark | Guard | Indiana Fever
- Week 12 Ranking: #3
- Games Played (Week 13) - 3 GP (3 W, 0 L)
- Average (Week 13) - 26.0 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 9.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.3 BPG
- Average (Season) - 18.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 8.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 0.8 BPG
Caitlin Clark has jumped to second in this week's WNBA MVP ladder race. Clark was phenomenal for the Indiana Fever. She had a career-high 31 points in their win against Angel Reese's Chicago Sky.
However, it would take out-of-this-world performances from Clark in the last seven games of the season for her to dethrone Wilson. The Las Vegas Aces star has created a huge gap to the other players in what could be one of the greatest seasons in WNBA history.
#1 - A'ja Wilson | Forward | Las Vegas Aces
- Week 12 Ranking: #1
- Games Played (Week 13) - 3 GP (2 W, 1 L)
- Average (Week 13) - 36.3 PPG, 13.0 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 3.0 BPG
- Average (Season) - 27.5 PPG, 12.0 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.9 SPG, 2.7 BPG
There have been doubts about A'ja Wilson's MVP case in the past two weeks due to the Las Vegas Aces' performance as a team. However, Wilson put those to bed with two 40-point games in the week.
She dropped 42 points against the Dallas Wings and had 41 points in a win over the Phoenix Mercury. She's not just dominating on offense but also on the defensive end.
