The WNBA Sixth Player of the Year race has entered the 13th week of the season. After weeks of fierce competition between players, the list has been more clear as the season has progressed.
After Week 13, here is the list of the top five candidates for the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year Award this season.
WNBA Sixth Player of the Year 2024: Top 5 candidates
#5 Aaliyah Edwards - Washington Mystics
The Washington Mystics didn't have a great season this year. However, after spending most part of the season as the worst team in the league, the Mystics have improved their position to the 10th spot and Aaliyah Edwards has been a big contributor to that.
Edwards has played 29 games this season and came off the bench 17 times for her team. Although her number and minutes decreased on the bench, she remained effective for her team.
In 29 games, the Sixth Player of the Year candidate is averaging 7.9 points on 49.5% shooting from the field. She is also averaging 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.
#4 Myisha Hines-Allen - Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx has the third-best record in the WNBA this season and the veteran forward Myisha Hines-Allen has been doing her part coming off the bench. Hines-Allen made her entrance in the Sixth Player of the Year race in the last few weeks.
She has played 33 games this season and came off the bench 23 times. While she has been more effective as a starter, she has been an important factor in elevating the Lynx bench.
This season, she is averaging 7.6 points on 49.0% shooting from the field and 35.4% shooting from the 3-point line. She is also averaging 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
#3 Sophie Cunningham - Phoenix Mercury
Sophie Cunningham has been the most consistent name in the Sixth Player of the Year conversation since the start of the season. An important part of the Phoenix Mercury's success, Cunningham has been consistent on both ends of the floor.
She has played 33 games this season and came off the bench 19 times. This season, Cunningham is averaging 8.2 points on 43.8% shooting off the field and 37.9% shooting from beyond the arc. She is also averaging 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks per game.
#2 Tiffany Hayes - Las Vegas Aces
Tiffany Hayes has little to prove in her WNBA career. The Las Vegas Aces convinced her to come out of retirement, and it wouldn't be surprising if she won the Sixth Player of the Year race this season.
Aces are one of the best teams in the league, and that makes Hayes' case even stronger. Hayes has played 25 games this season and come off the bench 22 times. Overall, she is averaging 9.1 points on 52.2% shooting from the field and 36.7% shooting from beyond the arc.
#1 Cheyenne Parker-Tyus - Atlanta Dream
After starting the season among the worst teams, the Atlanta Dream has a legitimate chance to make the playoffs. The Dream's win-loss record is tied with Chicago Sky for the eighth spot.
Amid the rising hope of the Dream, Cheyenne Parker-Tyus has been instrumental in elevating the team. In 25 games this season, she has come off the bench 14 times. For the second consecutive time, she has taken the top spot in the Sixth Player of the Year race.
Overall, she is averaging 9.2 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks per game.
