With Valorant all set to be released on PS5 and Xbox, aim assist is crucial to the game. Riot Games has promised to keep the game fair and just as competitive for console players as it is for PC players. Shooting in a computer with a mouse and doing the same with a controller are two different things. Thus, to shoot with the stability necessary for a game as competitive as Valorant, console players need to have aim assist.
For this reason, aim assist will be available for PS5 and Xbox players in Valorant. The devs have also created a Focus mode to further help with the aim.
Aim assist and Focus mode in Valorant on PS5 and Xbox
Even with aim assist, shooting with a controller grants a player less command over the overall shooting than a mouse does on a PC. So, to further level the playing field for console players, Riot Games has introduced the Focus mode in the game. Valorant players can enter the Focus mode after pulling the L2 or Left Trigger by default.
What this does is further stabilize shooting in the game. It is meant to be similar to hip-firing in PC. Essentially, a player enters a lower-sensitivity mode when it is activated, allowing for better and faster aim on consoles.
According to Arnar Gylfason, the Production Director of VALORANT, the Focus mode will help Valorant players on the console with precision in their aim:
"Focus is a new shooting mode that behaves essentially like Hip-Fire, but with reduced sensitivity. This way, players can use Hip-Fire whenever they need speed in moving their camera/aim (peeking corners, dodging utility), but utilize focus mode whenever they need precision (getting those cool headshots)."
For now, players get not only enough aim assist but also a mode dedicated specifically to consoles. This will help the game bridge the gap between the various devices it might soon be available on.
However, to maintain in-game competitive integrity, cross-play between consoles and PCs will not be possible. This move will help gamers get used to the competition on consoles without fearing PC players already used to the game's mechanics.
When will Valorant release on Consoles?
The console version of Riot Games' popular FPS title was revealed at the recent Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024. First, a limited beta version of the game will be rolled out which will be available to players who register for it from the game's official website.
This version will aim to assist PS5 and Xbox players completely with all the mechanics of the game. It will also carry along all the cosmetics available in the game right now. Essentially, the console version will have everything the PC version has. The limited beta begins on June 14, 2024.
