RRQ Ewok talks about the timeouts in the match against Global Esports in VCT 2023: Pacific League
After the Week 7, Day 2 matches of VCT 2023: Pacific League were over on May 7, 2023, Sportskeeda Esports got the opportunity to interact with Ewok in the post-match scrum interviews. Marthinus "Ewok" Walt is the head coach for Rex Regum Qeon. In the match against Global Esports, RRQ delivered impressive performances after each timeout taken. The coach was questioned about the calls he made during the timeouts that resulted in better performances from the team.
To this question, the coach had to say the following:
"On Fracture, we were a little bit anxious. So we just had to take a time out to calm the boys down a little bit. We had some small mistakes where we would get a little bit too overexcited. So some of it was strategic based but a lot of it was just us calming down a little bit and then focusing on what we need to do. We feel like our Fracture could have been a lot better. But at least it's improvement."
According to the coach, Rex Regum Qeon was anxious on the map when playing against Global Esports. Hence, timeouts were called so that the players could calm themselves. As for why they were anxious, the coach didn't delve into the details.
However, in an interview with EJAY from RRQ, he mentioned that the double Duelist composition of Global Esports, especially with Raze, caught the team by surprise.
The coach added that the side was making minor mistakes here and there. He pointed out how the players would get overexcited in some instances. Hence, these time-outs were called to mentally reset and direct them toward the goals. While some of these timeouts were strategic, they were mostly done to calm down the players.
Finally, the coach concluded that although they won the game, he believes the team could have done much better against Global Esports and is glad RRQ has shown improvements in their play.
Up next for RRQ in VCT 2023: Pacific League is Talon Esports. The two teams will clash in Seoul, South Korea on May 14, 2023.
