Logan Eggleston, the outside hitter for the Texas Longhorns’ volleyball team, has been honored with the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Introduced in 1991, this award recognizes graduating student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics and academics, while also committing themselves to leadership and community service.
Eggleston, who currently plays for Galatasaray in the Turkish Women's Volleyball League, is the first woman from Texas to be handed this honor. She is certainly deserving of it, as in her time at the university, the 23-year-old accumulated a long list of achievements.
Having played for the Longhorns between 2018 and 2022, Logan Eggleston became one of only two people in conference history to have earned first-team All-Big 12 honors five times. While at Texas, the American was the captain of the team for three years and led the Longhorns to their NCAA Championship victory in 2022. She also set the Big 12 career ace record with 208 aces during her collegiate career.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express her gratitude a having been named the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year, Logan Eggleston wrote,
“Such an honor to be named the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year! Thank you so much to the @NCAA, @TexasLonghorns, and @TexasVolleyball for all the amazing opportunities and experiences throughout my college career that have helped shape me into who I am today! 🤩🧡.”
Logan Eggleston on her time at the University of Texas
Logan Eggleston initially began her sporting career with basketball before shifting to volleyball as a 13-year-old. A few years later, the American was selected for the US Junior National team at 16, where she was the team's Most Valuable Player and Best Server in 2018.
In her schooling years, Eggleston led the Brentwood High School team to three straight state championships, before moving to the University of Texas to pursue her collegiate career.
While her athletics record with the Longhorns remained extraordinary, the 23-year-old excelled academically as well. She even served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Texas for two years.
Speaking of her experience at the University of Texas, Eggleston pinpointed winning the NCAA Championship as her proudest moment.
“The thing I'm most proud of from my time at Texas is definitely winning a national championship. (It’s) what I've dreamed of since I was super young was going somewhere, making a difference at the school and making an impact on the athletic department. I think my team really had the opportunity to do that, and we did,” she told NCAA.
"The one word I would use to describe my experience (at Texas) would be unforgettable. I will never forget the memories I made and the relationships that I created. I know my time there is going to impact me for the rest of my life,” she went on to add.
