The Kochi Blue Spikers will be aiming to put behind a loss in their previous encounter and get back to winning ways when they face Chennai Spartans in the tenth match of the RuPay Pro Volleyball League 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi, Kerala.
The Spikers will be hurting from their 5-0 decimation at the hands of Calicut Heroes. On the opposite side of the court, the Chennai Spartans will be brimming in confidence after registering their first win of the season, courtesy of a 4-1 victory against the Black Hawks Hyderabad.
Match Overview
The Kochi Blue Spikers started the season with a stamp of authority as they opened their tally with a 4-1 win over the U Mumba Volley and followed it up with a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Ahmedabad Defenders.
With a 3-2 win over the Black Hawks Hyderabad, the Blue Spikers registered a hat-trick of wins but in their previous encounter against the Calicut Heroes, Mohan Ukkrapandian's Spikers failed to bring their A-game as they fell prey to the season's first 5-0 whitewash.
The Chennai Spartans, on the other hand, overcame a 4-1 loss to the Calicut Heroes in their opening game and claimed their first win of the season by a 4-1 margin against the Black Hawks Hyderabad.
In what will be their last game at home, the Kochi Blue Spikers will be gunning for a win and the onus will be on David Lee (38 points from 4 matches) and Prabhagaran (33 points in 4 matches) to combine and resurrect Kochi's performance after the previous loss.
Naveen Raja Jacob and Rudy Verhoeff have led the way for the Spartans with 45 points in two matches and their form against the hosts could undoubtedly have a direct impact on the outcome of the game. The Spartans will be aiming to climb up the points table and with momentum on their side, could pose a stiff challenge to the Blue Spikers.
