Sri Lanka clinched the Bronze medal in both men's and women's categories on the sixth day of the Volleyball event in the ongoing South Asian Games 2019. They triumphed in both 3rd place matches that took place in the Dasharath Rangashala covered hall, Kathmandu.
Sri Lanka squared off against Bangladesh in the 3rd place match of the men's category. Bangladesh gained the first set after winning by 23-25. However, Sri Lanka came back by winning the next three 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 to win the encounter by a 3-1 margin. In the women's bracket, Sri Lanka prevailed over the Maldives 3-0 with straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-08) to clinch the Bronze medal.
Sri Lanka was the silver medalist in the 2016 edition of the South Asian Games in both men's and women's categories following their loss to India. However, the former could not progress further into the tournament courtesy of the competency shown by the Pakistan men's team and the Nepali women's team this year.
The following matches for the Gold medal are set to take place in the seventh and final day of the Volleyball event in the ongoing South Asian Games 2019.
