The Indian weightlifting contingent has had a memorable outing so far, at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, in Gold Coast, Australia, so far. While the two Manipuri weightlifters, Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu have brought gold, the likes of P Gururaja and teenager Deepak Lather won silver and bronze, respectively.

However, it has not been a cakewalk for them contingent in Gold Coast over the last few days. The weightlifters have been deprived of physios and masseurs at the Commonwealth Games Village after the Indian Weightlifting Federation missed the last date for filing the accreditation for the respective support staff members, Sportskeeda had earlier reported.

Now, after a successful outing in Australia, Mirabai Chanu, who smashed the Commonwealth Games record in the women's 48 kg category weightlifting event six times in as many lifts, came out to say that due to the lack of physics, the Indian weightlifters have had to treat each other during their stay Down Under.

“Athletes within our team have tried to treat each other’s injuries because our physio is not allowed to come into the Games Village or for our competition,” Mirabai Chanu said. “I have struggled with my recovery due to the absence of my physio. Accreditation issues should have been sorted out earlier to enable our physio to be with us.”

Earlier, the Indian Olympic Association had provided clarification on the matter, as to why the weightlifters cannot avail any of the physios or masseurs at the Village. Despite the fact that the WFLI missed the last date by a couple of days, the IOA has managed to get 'P' level accreditation for the physios and masseurs, which would only give them access to the training facilities.

Despite these difficulties, however, the Indian weightlifting contingent has gone about its business, winning four medals in two days. Now, it remains to be seen, whether the country can notch-up more medals in the sport.
