Eric Thibault is an American basketball coach who is the head coach of the Washington Mystics of the WNBA as of August 2024. Thibault’s coaching career started at the University of Missouri where he was a practice player for the women basketball team and later joined the team as a graduate assistant. His initial coaching experience was as a coach at St. John’s and VCU Rams women basketball team as an assistant coach. Thibault became an assistant coach for the Washington Mystics in 2013 and was later promoted to the position of associate head coach in 2019. After his father Mike Thibault retired in 2022, Thibault was appointed as the head coach of the Mystics while his father took up the role of the general manager of the team.
Since the appointment of Eric Thibault as the head coach of the Mystics, the team has remained relevant in the WNBA and has posted a respectable record of 19-21 in 40 games played in the 2023 WNBA season, making it to the playoffs. However, they were eliminated in the 1st round, losing the series 2-0 against the New York Liberty.

Eric Thibault attended the University of Missouri to pursue his undergraduate English degree. Although he did not play for the college team in major competitions, Thibault was a practice player for the Missouri Tiger women’s basketball team. After 3 years, as a practice player, Thibault secured a graduate assistant role with the Tigers in his senior year.
After his stint with the Tigers, Thibault and the entire coaching team was let go, due to which Thibault found another opportunity at St. Johns’s as a graduate assistant. Following a one-year stint with the VCU Rams Women’s basketball team, Thibault joined his father, the winningest coach in WNBA history, Mike Thibault, as an assistant coach in the Washington Mystics. Thibault served as an assistant till 2019, before getting promoted to the associate head coach role in 2019. In 2022, Mike Thibault resigned from the head coach position, but continued to be in the GM role, which made way for Eric Thibault to become the Head Coach of the Washington Mystics in 2023.
