Veteran assistant coach Eric Thibault is the current head coach of the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. Thibault began his coaching career early while still pursuing his degree at the University of Missouri, where he also played for the university's team, the Missouri Tigers women's basketball team. However, after a few years, he quit playing and transitioned into a coaching role, becoming an assistant coach for the team. Thibault eventually left his English degree to focus on coaching. Later, he assisted other teams, including working with Kim Barnes Arico and the St. John's Red Storm women's basketball team. After graduating with a degree his first professional coaching job was as an assistant coach of VCU Rams women's basketball team.
In May 2013, Thibault got the opportunity to coach a WNBA team when the Washington Mystics signed him for the assistant coach job. Following that he upgraded to Associate head coach for the same team in 2019. Finally, in 2022 November he became head coach of the Washington Mystics. Although as an assistant, previously Thibault played a key role in guiding the team to eight playoff appearances, including consecutive trips to the WNBA Finals in 2018 and 2019. His efforts contributed to the team securing their first WNBA Championship in franchise history in 2019.
