Asian Wrestling Championship to be held from 18th April

The 2013 Free Style, Greco Roman Style & Female Senior Asian Wrestling Championship will be held at K.D. Jadhav Wrestling Stadium, I.G. Sports Complex, New Delhi from 18th to 22nd April 2013. Asia is a strong wrestling continent and Asian wrestlers account for more than one third medals in the Olympic Games and World Championships. 19 countries including all strong wrestling countries like Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Japan, Korea, DPR Korea, Mongolia and China in addition to India will be participating in this 5 days competition.

In this Championship, 98 Free Style, 75 Greco Roman Style and 64 Female Wrestlers will be competing for 7 Gold, 7 Silver & 14 Bronze Medals in each style. The list of wrestlers includes a Silver Medal Winner of 12 London Olympic Games and a large number of Gold Medal winners of the last Asian Games and Asian Championship. Amongst the Indian wrestlers, the most prominent include Geeta & Babita both winner of Bronze Medal in 2012 Woman World Championship, Narsingh Pancham Yadav of Gold Medal winner of 2010 Asian Championship and Amit Kumar Bronze Medal winner of 2012 Senior Asian Championship.

While the preliminary round will be held from 1400 hrs. to 1700 hrs, the repechages, Bronze Medal & Gold Medal bouts will take place from 1900 hrs. to 2100 hrs. The formal Opening Ceremony will be held on 18th April, 2013 at 1800 hrs., where Sh. Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology will be the Chief Guest.

There is a separate media lounge and seating area. Journalists who have not submitted their Accreditation Forms are requested to do so and give their photographs. The Media car label will be issued separately for entry the Gate No. 15 and all vehicles of the media will be parked in the media parking area near Gate No. 15.

Entry for public is by Complementary tickets which are being issued on first come first show basis, these are available in the office of Wrestling Federation of India, # 10 & 11, NDMC Building, Palika Place [near R.K. Ashram Metro Station], Punchkuian Road, New Delhi on all 5 days between 1200 hrs. to 1600 hrs. and also at a Booth at Gate No. 7-A of I.G. Sports Complex, New Delhi where these will be available on all 5 days between 1200 hrs. to 1700 hrs. Complimentary tickets will also be available at Chhatrasal Stadium, Guru Hanuman Akhra, Khalifa Jasram Akhra [Okhla], Captain Chandrup Akhara [Adarsh Nagar], Chandgi Ram Akhara [Civil Line] & WZ-25, Asalatpur, Janakpuri.
