WWF European Championship was one of the secondary titles during the attitude era. Tag-team partners British Bulldog and Owen Hart, battled in the finals of the tournament to decide the first ever WWF European Champion. This match was held during a Raw is War episode on March 3, 1997 at Berlin, Germany. These two men were the reigning tag team champions at that point of time, and this made the match all the more special since both men knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses. In a match which was praised for being technically perfect, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith emerged as the winner. He has been credited as the first ever European Champion. The European Championship was merged with WWE Intercontinental Championship in 2002.
An interesting fact – Only two Europeans have held the European title – British Bulldog and William Regal!
