The main event of the ‘Raw is War’ show on December 29, 2003 at San Antonio, Texas featured hometown hero Shawn Michaels taking on the World Heavyweight Champion Triple H in a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both men gave their all in this enduring match that lasted more than 30 minutes with plenty of near-falls. In the end, it seemed like Shawn pulled off a major upset victory when he pinned Triple H. However, Eric Bischoff, who was the acting referee in place of the injured Earl Hebner, ruled it out as a double pin-fall and declared Triple H as the World Heavyweight Champion. Notwithstanding this biased refereeing by Bischoff, ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ Stone Cold Steve Austin made a shocking return and hit a stunner on him. Though this match had a controversial finish, the quality of wrestling was supreme making it one of the best matches in WWE history.
