Big WWE Championship Match for Summerslam

As Summerslam approaches (August 19th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California), the card is yet to be fully booked. In fact, before tonight, only one match had officially been signed, that being Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar. However, tonight on RAW, a second match was added, and it will be a big match for the WWE Championship.

At the top of the program, current WWE Champion CM Punk complained about the lack of focus on him despite being the champion, citing guys like The Rock and The Big Show as being spotlight thieves. This prompted Show to once again hit the ring and steal the spotlight from Punk, basically saying he should be thanking for Show for helping Punk keep the WWE title in last week’s defense against Cena.

Eventually, this prompted Cena to come out and try to take Big Show down, but he was unsuccessful in the process as Punk simply looked on, shaking his head about his lack of face time yet again. At this point, new RAW General Manager AJ Lee appeared on the stage and announced that the main event for the evening would be Show vs. Cena, with the winner facing Punk for the title at Summerslam.

At the end of the broadcast, we got our match to determine a new #1 contender as Cena faced off with Show, with Punk on commentary. In the closing moments, it appeared Cena was on the verge of victory. However, the match ended when Punk hit the ring and attacked both men, resulting in a no contest for the bout, leaving us without a #1 contender for the big pay-per-view.

Punk then grabbed the microphone and declared that there was no winner before leaving the area. As he headed towards the back through the stage entrance, he crossed paths with AJ. AJ announced that, although no one technically won in the main event tonight, she declared that both Cena and Show were still winners in her book, and as a result, she would still name a new contender for Punk’s title.

She stated that the new #1 contender was Show, but paused for a moment and mentioned Cena’s name as well, making the title match at Summerslam a triple threat contest with Punk defending against both Cena and Show in a match where he doesn’t even have to be pinned to lose the title. As you might expect, Punk returned to the stage, screaming at his former girlfriend and demanding that she show him respect because he is the champion.
