At the UFC 141 PPV, Brock Lesnar lost in the main event fight with Alistair Overeem. He was defeated by TKO in the first round after 2 minutes and 26 seconds. Subsequently, Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from UFC, which has raised expectations of his possible comeback to the WWE.
During a post-fight press conference, UFC head Dana White brushed off rumors and made it clear that Brock Lesnar was retiring under contract. This meant that he wouldn’t be free to go work for WWE or another pro wrestling promotion without White’s permission.
Brock Lesnar, touted as the next big thing in the WWE during his stay from 2002 to 2004, lost interest in pro-wrestling and tried NFL. Later, he joined MMA major UFC in 2008 and earned the tag as the highest paid MMA athlete. Now that he has retired from UFC, many are predicting that he will return to the WWE sooner rather than later. He was included in the roster of WWE 12 video game with the prior permission of UFC. But his reason statement bashing the WWE or Pro-Wrestling as a whole might not be a good sign for his return. He has the size and popularity necessary for a WWE superstar and hence, if he returns now he’ll be as hot as ever.
Many predict that Brock Lesnar is the man behind the mysterious ‘It Begins’ promos’ which have been airing recently, promoting the return of a star on January 2, 2012. It is highly unlikely that Brock Lesnar will be that man.
WWE commentator Jim Ross has acknowledged the rumors, but has shrugged off the possibility of Lesnar’s return in the very near future.
“Brock Lesnar to WWE rumors rampant. Always said IF Brock returns it would be for a one off appearance. Now’s NOT the time.”
Pro-Wrestling and MMA fans are eager to find out what Brock’s next move would be.
