Geneva – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland has refused to invalidate the wrestling governing body’s presidential elections and give the green light to the organisation’s congress in Moscow.
FILA former president Raphael Martinetti, who resigned Feb 16, just days after the International Olympic Committe (IOC) recommended the sport be dropped from the Olympics in 2020, had filed a suit to nullify the election of acting president Nenad Lalovic and prevent FILA from meeting in Moscow May 18, reports Xinhua.
CAS Friday refused Martinetti’s requests and also ruled that Martinetti should remain a member of the FILA bureau.
The Moscow meeting will help the sport shape its presentation to the IOC executive board May 29 in a bid to stay in the Olympics.
