Originally, we were slated to see Sheamus defend his World Championship against #1 contender Alberto Del Rio at WWE Over the Limit on Sunday, May 20th. Del Rio won the right to face Sheamus for the title on April 6th, defeating the champion in a non-title match via disqualification.
However, a couple new twists have been added to the match.
On tonight’s episode of RAW, Sheamus faced off with Del Rio again, only this time, in a tag team match, with Sheamus having Randy Orton as a partner, and Del Rio siding with Chris Jericho. Towards the end of the match, Sheamus was looking to nail Jericho with the Brogue Kick. Jericho ducked at the last second, causing Sheamus to nail Orton in the face instead. As Sheamus was trying to apologize to Orton, he was ripe for the picking, turning right into a Codebreaker by Jericho, with Jericho getting the 3-count. After the match, once Orton got back to his feet, he nailed Sheamus with an RKO as payback.
As a result of the pin, Jericho later went back to John Laurinaitis’ office, claiming that he deserves a shot at the World title due to beating the champion in the match. Del Rio then protested, stating that he already had the next title match. And, just because he felt the need, Orton, despite not beating anyone, claimed he deserved the title match simply for laying Sheamus out. This led to a brawl between the three, with Sheamus eventually joining in as well. After the referees broke up the brawl, Laurinaitis announced he was making a change to the title match, and that it would now be a Fatal 4-Way: Sheamus vs. Orton vs. Jericho vs. Del Rio.
In other news, it was announced tonight on RAW that Over the Limit will also see a WWE Divas Championship match, as current champion Layla will put her title on the line against “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix. Phoenix, who has recovered from her ankle injury, is owed a rematch for the championship, having never gotten to face the woman who beat her for the title, Nikki Bella, due to the injury. However, she is fully healed now, and will be cashing in her mandatory rematch at the PPV. Layla has looked very good since returning from her own injury, which should make for a good, competitive match between two of the better Divas wrestlers in the company.
