Chinese women dominate on day three of Senior Asian Wrestling Championship

Indian women settle for bronze medals in three categories

New Delhi, 14 May 2010: Indian women continued India’s medal run in a China dominated day three in the free style format of the senior Asian Wrestling Championship 2010 today. The Chinese wrestlers stamped authority on the Gold medal in four categories while the Indians settled for Bronze in equal number of categories. The five day long tournament is being held at the state-of-the-art Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex here in the capital. The event is being treated as test event en-route to the XIX Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 scheduled to be held in October later this year.

In the 48 kg category Zhao Shasha from China defeated Mimura Fuyuko from Japan for the gold medal. So Sim Hyang from People’s Republic of Korea and Vietnamese wrestler Nguyen Thi Lua finished third at the podium.

China continuing its gold run in the 51 kg category saw Li Hui Defeating Zhuldyz Eshimova from Kazakhstan for the gold medal. Japanese wrestler Sakurai Hiromi and Han Kum Ok from People’s Republic of Korea had to settle with the bronze medal.

In the 55kg category Chinese wrestler Yang Senlia defeated Japan’s Matsukawa Chikako for the gold medal. The bronze medal was bagged by Choe Hungyong from People’s Republic of Korea and S Byambatseren from Mongolia..

In the 59kg category Chinese wrestler Liu Fengming defeated Mongolia’s S Battsetseg for the gold medal. Japanese wrestler Ito Yurika and Alka Tomar from India had to settle with bronze medal.

“I did make some errors in technique here; I will need to train harder I guess. I hope to learn from this championship to better my chances for Gold at the coming Commonwealth Games,” said Arjuna awardee Alka Tomar after her win.

In the 63 kg category Korean wrestler park Sang Eun defeated Chinese wrestler Cui Haili to win the gold for here country. The bronze medal was taken by India’s Suman Kundu and Chinese Taipei’s Hou Min We.

In the 67 kg category Japanese wrestler Iijima Chiaki won the gold defeating B Oyunsuren from Mongolia. Chinese wrestler Chen Ying along with Olga Zhanibekova from Kazakhstan settled for the bronze medal.

In the 72 kg category Guzel Manyurova from Kazakhstan won the gold medal defeating G Naranchimeg from Mongolia. Indian wrestler Anmol and Panova Yana from Kazakhstan settled for the bronze medal
