Summerslam is WWE‘s next big pay-per-view event, and is considered one of the “Big Four” shows on the WWE’s calendar (along with the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania and the Survivor Series). Vince McMahon has recently stated he wants to put a bigger emphasis on Summerslam, basically making it the summer version of Wrestlemania, and he is starting out with a big main event.
As you probably know, Triple H has been having a war of words with Paul Heyman, the on-screen legal counsel (and real life representative) for Brock Lesnar, stemming back from when Lesnar broke Triple H’s arm with the Kimura Lock the night after Extreme Rules. Since then, Triple H has made several challenges to Lesnar for a match at Summerslam, with Paul Heyman speaking on behalf of Lesnar, shooting him down each time (in reality, Heyman has been making the appearances because Lesnar is only contracted to appear on-screen 30 times under his one year deal, having already used up five appearances prior to earlier tonight).
Tonight, Triple H made a challenge one more time, and again, Heyman answered the call, despite Lesnar being in the building. Heyman told Triple H that Lesnar’s answer was still “no”, forcing Triple H to tell Heyman he was going to go hunting for Lesnar right away. Heyman cut him off, reminding him of Heyman’s two pending lawsuits against Triple H and WWE, pointing out this would add a third lawsuit that Triple H doesn’t need. Triple H resorted to name calling, with Heyman calling Triple H “a child” and bringing up “The Game’s” actual children before Triple H threatened him. Heyman continued the verbal barrage on Triple H and his family, prompting Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley to make her return to WWE television and intervene. After several insults and a slap by Stephanie, Heyman finally agreed to the match on Lesnar’s behalf, but not before continuing to insult the McMahon-Helsmley family, leading Stephanie to tackle him.
This assault prompted Lesnar to finally make his long-awaited return, resulting in a brawl between Triple H and Lesnar, with Lesnar eventually walking away with a smile on his face.
As of now, it appears that a standard one-on-one match will be taking place, but do not be surprised if a stipulation is added over the next couple of weeks. Much like Cena/Lesnar from Extreme Rules earlier this year, there is a good chance that this match will be made into an “unsanctioned fight” or something similar.
