First three matches set for Hell in a Cell

After this past week of WWE television, we now have the first three matches set for the company’s next big pay-per-view event, Hell in a Cell.

The first match will be WWE Champion CM Punk defending his title in a rematch from Night of Champions against John Cena. However, this time, the match will be inside Hell in a Cell. Punk has been taunting Cena for weeks and has injured him in the process, putting the match in doubt (in reality, Cena is legitimately injured). However, Cena insists the match will happen and he will be there at the PPV in October. Despite the injury, expect this match to happen. Cena and Punk are scheduled to feud for the remainder of the year until Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returns to face whomever the champion may be at the Royal Rumble (likely putting in an appearance or two before then).

In the other main title match, World Champion Sheamus will be defending his title against the new #1 contender, The Big Show. Show has been gone for a bit, but made his return on this past Monday Night RAW, ending a match between Tensai and Brodus Clay by knocking each of them out with the WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction). This past Friday night on Smackdown!, he continued to wreak havoc, pinning Randy Orton in an #1 contender’s match after two chokeslams. Then, just to emphasize how serious he is about gunning for the World title, he knocked Orton out with another WMD post-match. To the best of my knowledge, this will actually be the first time Sheamus and Show have ever gone one-on-one. There is expected to be a lot of emphasis put on this match tomorrow night on RAW, especially with Cena likely being absent due to his injury. And, although it has not been confirmed as of yet, expect this match to be contested inside Hell in a Cell sometime this week.

The third championship match will see The WWE Tag Team Champions Hell No! (Daniel Bryan and Kane) defend their newly won championships. However, we do not have the names of the top contenders just yet. Booker T announced a tournament this past Friday night, with the winning team moving onto the PPV. The tournament consists of 8 teams and, thus far, one team has advanced to the second round, that being The Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow). There are still 6 teams left in the tournament, and those matches will continue over the next couple of weeks. Expect a Scholars/Rey & Cara final for the tournament, with Rey and Cara likely moving onto the PPV.
