Jammu, Oct 12 (IANS) An international Indian-style wrestling competition was held in Katra town of Jammu district Saturday, and Satyavart won the 9th Roustam-E-International Indian-style title, defeating Ukrainian Mykhalio Datsemko.
The championship was organised as part of Navratra festival in Katra town where the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is situated.
World champion and Olympic medal-winning wrestler Sushil Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
In other main contest of the Roustam-E-International Indian-style wrestling competition, Sagaliuk Liubomyr of England defeated Indian Yudhvir Singh in a tough bout.
Wrestler Satyavart was awarded the Silver Gurj, Patta and cash award Rs.100,000. The runner-up won Rs.50,000. The third and fourth-placed wrestlers were given Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000.
Sushil Kumar and his coach Yashvir Singh were also honored with cash prizes of Rs.50,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively by the organising committee of the competition.
Speaking to reporters, Sushil Kumar said he had paid obeisance at the shrine of the Hindu deity and prayed for victory in competitions, so he could bring glory to the nation.
Wrestlers from India, England, Belarus and Ukraine participated in the competition, which was witnessed by scores of people at the jam-packed stadium in the town.
