After having no General Manager in WWE for about two months, a new one has officially been announced. Well, at least for Monday Night RAW, anyway. On the 1000th episode earlier tonight, WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon interrupted the wedding of AJ and Daniel Bryan to announce that a new RAW GM had been named, and that person is… AJ.
During the ceremony, AJ said “yes” to Daniel Bryan in presence of WWE legend Slick, who acted as the minister for the wedding. However, she very shortly revealed that she wasn’t saying yes to Bryan. She proceeded to inform the crowd that she was saying yes to a proposal from another man earlier in the night. Vince McMahon then made his way out, confusing everyone, especially Bryan. However, Vince informed the crowd that it wasn’t “that kind of proposal”, but rather a business proposal. He had a meeting with AJ earlier in the day to discuss business, and apparently, during that meeting, it was decided that he would name the “deranged diva” as the new GM for the company’s flagship show. Bryan stared in disbelief as AJ gave him a crooked smile before skipping circles around him in the ring. As she headed back up to the stage, she turned around and led her own “Yes!” chant with the crowd. Bryan then proceeded to throw a temper tantrum before destroying the wedding set that had been placed inside the ring for the ceremony.
Although the status of Smackdown! has not been confirmed, we have our official GM for RAW. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. AJ has gone from somewhat of a faceless diva to the manager of both the WWE and World Champions to on-screen figurehead of RAW in less than a year’s time, and is only the second female RAW GM in company history (3rd female overall, counting Stephanie McMahon, who managed Smackdown! about 10 years ago).
Personally, I think it’s a good choice. AJ is currently one of the most dynamic and intriguing characters on the show, heel or face. She plays her part of a crazed, confused, manipulating woman extremely well, and when you throw in the fact that she now has authority as part of her character, it adds a very interesting dynamic to the entire package. Although Bryan is technically a Smackdown! wrestler, the roster split doesn’t mean that much anymore, so you should expect him to continue appearing on RAW, likely continuing the storyline with AJ in some capacity.
