New WWE Tag Team champions crowned

Primo and Epico (R) defeated Air Boom to become the new WWE Tag Champs

WWE.com is reporting that Epico and Primo defeated Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne (Air Boom) in a tag-team Championship match held at the WWE Raw live event in Oakland, California, yesterday. This is the first tag-team championship victory for Epico whereas has already had the taste of tag-team championship glory twice – Carlito being his partner on both occasions. Rosa Mendes, who has been like a manager of sorts for this team, tweeted after the match,

“Guess who the new tag team Champions are!!??WE ARE!!! WE BEAT AIRBOOM in Oakland!! I will remember this day forever!”

Generally, WWE Titles do not change hands at live events. Hence, certain extra-ordinary circumstances might be the reason for such an occurrence. Recently, it has been rumored that Evan Bourne had some heat over him from the top brass of the WWE (especially Triple H) over his drug usage issues. Evan Bourne had been suspended for a month in 2011 for using fake marijuana. It seems like Evan Bourne’s heat is the reason behind this sudden stripping of the Tag Team Titles from Air Boom.

Air Boom held the titles for 5 months

Air Boom won the titles from David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty on August 22. 2011 and have successfully defended the title on numerous occasions over the past five months, bringing credibity to WWE’s tag team division. Let’s hope that Evan Bourne doesn’t get endeavored for his misdemeanors and more importantly, Kofi doesn’t get pulled back yet again. On the other hand, Epico and Primo have being good but not great as a team. Hopefully, this title reign might improve their credibilty and help them gain some fan following, which is currently lacking with the WWE tag teams.
