Sakshi Malik from Haryana secured a bronze medal for herself at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the women’s wrestling 58 kg category, bringing India its first medal this year before P.V. Sindhu secured the second. She defeated Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 after facing a 2-9 loss in the Rio quarter-finals to Russia's Valeriia Koblova, becoming the first ever Indian female wrestler in history to win a medal in the Olympics. Needless to say, Sakshi Malik is adored by her fans, her country and young wrestlers everywhere for her determination and skill.
In a recent interview, Malik revealed that she has plans to get married this year and when asked about the details, she mentioned that her husband-to-be is a fellow wrestler although she did not reveal the name. She also mentioned that she plans to pursue her career in sports after marriage and that her fiancé is quite supportive of that. Sakshi added that she hope to find a friend in the man she is going to marry who will share her ambitions and dreams as well as help her train for the future of her career.
“I will get a friend after marriage. He will help in my preparation as well. I firmly believe that after marriage I will have no problem in pursuing my sport," Sakshi said to a Bengali publication, Anandabazar Patrika.
Sakshi is being awarded the prestigious Khel Ratna award as well as cash rewards from the Haryana government. BMW have also offered brand new cars to each of the Indian participants of the Rio Olympics including victors P.V Sindhu and Sakshi Malik.
