It seems Indian test captain Virat Kohli may follow suit and be joining his teammate Rohit Sharma in co-owning a franchise in the inaugural Pro Wrestling League.
Earlier in the day, we broke the news about Rohit Sharma being named the co-owner of the U.P. Warriors team, and sources point out to Virat joining the bandwagon too.
According to reports from CNN-IBN reporter Sanjeeb Mukherjee, sources claim that Virat Kohli has picked up a stake in the Bengaluru Yodhas franchise. This is what CNN-IBN posted on their Twitter handle regarding the development:
PWL had announced prior to the auction that two big name cricketers were in talks of owning a franchise in the league. While Rohit Sharma’s inclusion was confirmed in the public domain by the PWL, the second big name was kept under wraps and it seems that it may very well be the Delhi native.
Virat Kohli’s acquisition would generate some much-needed buzz around the inaugural Pro Wrestling League – which it direly needs considering that it kicks off tomorrow on December 10th.
Bengaluru holds a special place in Kohli’s heart as he plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL – which further validates the possibility of the reports being true. This won’t be the first franchise he would have a possible stake in, as the flamboyant right-handed batsman is the co-owner of Indian Super League team FC Goa.
Kohli’s name would multiply the reach of the league magnanimously and would ensure the league successfully promotes wrestling and the overlooked grapplers of the oldest combat sport of the world.
The Pro Wrestling League begins from tomorrow onwards with Veer Delhi taking on CDR Punjab Royals in the first match of the league. Click here to know everything about the first-of-its-kind initiative.
