A former member of the ‘Nexus’ faction, “Skip Sheffield”, was taken out of action due to an injury and has been repackaged as Ryback. We have seen enough of this WWE superstar on Friday Night Smackdown in the last few months. With right feuds and intriguing storylines, there is no doubt that Ryback can make it big in the WWE but looking at the things that he has achieved ever since his entry on the April 6th edition of Smackdown, things don’t look too bright at all.
Many people still complain that Ryback is very much similar to Goldberg in terms of his dominance in the ring and he looks a little like RVD thanks to his singlet.
Now looking deeper into what Ryback has really achieved over the span that he has enjoyed one will simply feel disheartened that WWE is wasting such a pure talent. His main task till date has been to squash his opponents who were nothing close to competition at all. Local small time wrestlers sent in just to make Ryback look stronger looked a little interesting in the beginning and as every week went by WWE started overdoing the short squashes.
I guess, this is the main reason why fans today sound the Goldberg chants every time we see Ryback fighting. While I must agree the creative team of the WWE is trying real hard to wade off these chants, it is still something that exists. Some common things that the WWE did try is put Ryback in feud with Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks. When that didn’t work out WWE now has brought in Jinder Mahal a heel to be one of the first rivals of Ryback. Will this work in suppressing the Goldberg chants? I say I would have to wait to see what really happens.
Now looking at the future of this wrestler there are several things that are being told by fans. While some feel that Ryback being similar to Goldberg in terms of character will give him a slight push there are many more who feel that the longer run will be a problem mainly because of this. This is the WWE which has seen a large number of monsters come in and fade away as quickly as they arrived. Hence it is important that the WWE handles Ryback constantly and make optimum use of the resources that he possesses.
Ryback has shown very less of his in-ring skills to the fans especially since all his matches till date have lasted only for five minutes. It is therefore important that Ryback brings in better moves in today’s scenario where in-ring moves are given more importance than persona and appeal.
Ryback can be the baby face that the WWE intends him to be but still, factors like the storyline and most importantly his gimmick will play a huge role in making sure that he lasts at least as long as the WWE expects him to. Feed him more!
