India today added to a growing number of athletes who will represent the country at the Olympic Games in Rio this August. Dattu Bhokanal, with the Indian Army, was first to qualify in the Men's Single Sculls at the Asian Olympic Qualifying event.
Following the conclusion of the rowing qualifications, Bhokanal’s spot at the Rio 2016 Olympics has been confirmed. The 25-year-old clocked 7 minutes 07.49 seconds in the 2 km course to finish and qualify for the mega-event.
Meanwhile, Indian wrestler Sandeep Tomar has also qualified in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling category; he takes India’s fourth Rio 2016 Wrestling quota spot. India’s Hardeep has qualified in the 49KG Greco-Roman discipline, with London 2012 Bronze medal winner Yogeshwar Dutt qualifying in the men's 65kg freestyle category.
India has had its most Olympic qualification success in the freestyle wrestling category, with World Championship bronze medal winner Narsingh Pancham Yadav qualifying in he men's 74kg category.
