SummerSlam is approaching, and it is already shaping up to be a pretty exciting event. Even though no matches have been officially announced, some of them are pretty obvious. Here are my predictions (and hopes and dreams) for what matches will take place at SummerSlam.
Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar
Unless Brock shows up on the 1000th Raw, says no, and leaves forever, it’s pretty much guaranteed that we will see this match.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio, who is scheduled to return Tuesday (or Friday, because that’s when Smackdown airs), is no doubt going to be in a match at SummerSlam. Seeing how WWE likes to put latinos in matches with other latinos (don’t ask me why), I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reboot of Alberto Del Rio’s first ever feud for SummerSlam.
Chris Jericho vs. The Miz
The Miz, who returned at Money In The Bank, is going to need something to do for SummerSlam. Seeing as the Miz got quite the babyface pop at Money In The Bank, he could easily take on Chris Jericho at SummerSlam. And hey, Jericho has been getting some face pops too, which means that either men can be the face or heel in the match. Also, Jericho could blame the Miz for his Money In The Bank loss (and if I remember correctly, it could be blamed on him).
Randy Orton vs. Big Show
Let’s see, Randy Orton, who is currently suspended, is going to come back before SummerSlam. Big Show, who doesn’t have any foreseeable feuds right now, is a “monster” who could easily be targeted upon a certain someone’s return. Pretty likely to happen.
Tyson Kidd vs. Tensai
In one of the two feuds that are probably coming out of the Smackdown Money In The Bank match, Tyson Kidd and Tensai have seemed to start a little bit of a feud. Kidd got an upset over Tensai, Tensai assaulted him backstage, and Tensai was targeting the Crown Prince of the WWE at Money In The Bank. It could be a decent match and a good way to (hopefully) get Tyson Kidd over.
Layla vs. Kharma
Well, this one is more of a hope. Rumors have been swirling around that Kharma has been released from her WWE contract. To add to the whispers, her profile has been removed from the roster and added to the “Alumni” section. Even though her release might be true (if it is, WWE fucked up big time), there is still a little piece of me that thinks (hopes/dreams) that she will return at the 1000th Raw and take out Layla, setting up a match between the two at SummerSlam.
Primetime Players vs. Primo & Epico vs. Kofi Kingston & R-Truth
WWE made a very odd move at Money In The Bank when Primo and Epico beat the number one contender’s to the tag team titles. This leads me to believe that we are going to see a triple threat tag team match for the tag team titles at SummerSlam. Primetime Players will win the titles on Raw, Primo and Epico will say that they beat the champions at Money In The Bank (therefore getting a SummerSlam match), and Kofi Kingston and R-Truth will just cash-in their rematch clause.
Santino Marella vs. Damien Sandow
Damien Sandow has seemed to be targeting Zack Ryder and Santino Marella lately, calling them out for their stupid antics. Seeing as Santino Marella is the one holding the United States Championship, it makes a lot of sense that Damien will go after Santino at SummerSlam. Could we finally get a proper US Champion?
Christian vs. Daniel Bryan
This one is a little bit of a stretch, even for me, but since Bryan won’t be facing Punk at SummerSlam, I thought “why not?”.
Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett
Wade Barrett, who is currently cleared to return, was scheduled to win a Money In The Bank match at WrestleMania 28. Then he got injured, sidelining the bare-knuckle brawler and his well-deserved push. Well, it seems as if the former Nexus leader is ready to return, and although he missed his chance to win the Money In The Bank briefcase, the WWE can still give him his push by returning and facing Sheamus at SummerSlam.
CM Punk vs. John Cena
I had awul feelings in my heart when John Cena won the Money In The Bank match. The Money In The Bank match is a tool used to propel young talent (not that anyone in the match needed propelling), and the most decorated, overused, and kid friendly star in the WWE won it. Sigh. But, we have to look forward into the future. Cena will likely pull a RVD and cash in honorably. Whether it happens at the 1000th Raw or SummerSlam, this match is probably going to happen.
