SummerSlam Preview: The Miz vs Rey Mysterio

The Miz is no stranger to the powerful element of surprise. Less than a month ago, The Awesome One capitalized on a RAWactive opportunity and stunned Christian to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Well, Raw General Manager AJ Lee had a surprise of her own for The Miz Monday night. About an hour before Raw went on the air, AJ announced on Twitter that The Miz will defend the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam against Rey Mysterio, adding another exciting matchup to an already action-packed card this Sunday. As the Raw GM said it herself, “How awesome is that?”

The Miz, who became a Triple Crown Champion by capturing the Intercontinental Title, faces a tough test against The Master of the 619 as he tries to prove he’s truly back on top of WWE. Mysterio hasn’t missed a beat despite being out of action for nearly a year due to injury. The explosive Superstar returned on the July 16 edition of Raw and has brought the same high-energy, daring style the WWE Universe has come to know and love.

It was just last year that these two Superstars squared off on Raw in the finals of an eight-man tournament to crown a new WWE Champion. The hard-fought matchup, which saw Mysterio claim his first and only WWE Title, gave us a glimpse of what to expect when they meet again at SummerSlam.
