Dustin Rhodes(Goldust) has been using twitter for the last few months to make a proposal for a match with his real-life brother, Cody Rhodes, who is the reigning intercontinental champion in the WWE. Though this match has not yet been confirmed to take place officially at Wrestlemania 28, recent incidents indicate that this match is currently under consideration. Here are the reasons why Cody will face Goldust at Wrestlemania 28.
First of all, Goldust has completely recovered from the shoulder injury that forced him out of in-ring action in early 2011. Since, then he hasn’t been involved in any matches. He had expressed his desire for a career vs Intercontinental Title match against Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania. He has been working as a backstage producer in Smackdown and has been making occasional appearances on TV on segments involving Cody in the recent past. It may be a last hurrah in his career if he goes out at Wrestlemania after putting on a great match with his brother thereby helping him to get over.
Secondly, at the 2009 Royal Rumble, Cody eliminated Goldust which surprised many. With Cody proclaiming that he is going to win the Rumble this year, Goldust may shatter his dream by avenging for that elimination, which will lead to their Wrestlemania match. Currently, Cody Rhodes has nothing going, storyline-wise. He is in a minor feud with Justin Gabriel which points to the fact that they are planning to build towards a match with Goldust after Royal Rumble.
Cody’s recent feud with Booker T involved Goldust in a minor role. Cody has been insulting Dustin in the recent past and even attack him once with his Beautiful Disaster kick. Last week on Smackdown, Cody Rhodes proclaimed that he is the last hope for the Rhodes Family and by doing so, took potshots against his father Dusty Rhodes and his brother Dustin Rhodes (Goldust). This may have been done for storyline purposes to build the match between Cody and Dustin at Wrestlemania 28. Since Cody had mentioned family, their wrestlemania match may involve Dusty in some capacity.
Goldust’s desire to face Cody at Wrestlemania might be a reality on April 1, 2012 at Miami. But the question is, will Cody remain Intercontinental Champion until Wrestlemania?
