After a pay-per-view that surpassed expectations, WWE didn’t really deliver like they should have. Raw had a few moments, but it was mostly made up of boring segments and boring matches. Now it is time to rank the top ten moments from a mediocre Raw.
#10. Christian vs. Jinder Mahal
Christian’s first match since his return to Raw, managed to be quite good, given that his opponent was Jinder Mahal. It featured some decent back and forth action between the two, and was successful in introducing Christian back into the WWE as a face. They probably should’ve picked a better guy than Jinder Mahal to do the job, but it still worked out in the end. They really need to change the white strap though, it looks really dub on anyone who isn’t wearing white attire.
#9. Santino Marella announces Alberto Del Rio
I’m not sure what was the reason behind organising this segment, but it was somewhat entertaining. Santino came out, interrupted Ricardo, then they both rolled R’s at each other. The segment ended with Santino doing a horrible job announcing Del Rio, while Ricardo writhed in pain from the Cobra. Once again, I honestly have no idea why this happened, but there was a few moments in it that made me chuckle a little bit. “You see, it’s not actually a cobra! It’s my arm in a cobra costume!”.
#8. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio
For the second time in two weeks, Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio pulled off a great match. Lot of back and forth quick paced action, and a nice double rope-hing DDT from Orton. I know most of you already know this, but Del Rio has one of the best looking (and sounding) Enzuigiri’s in wrestling today, and anytime I get to hear that foot connect to the back of someone’s head, I’m happy.
#7. Big Show explains his actions
In the horrifyingly long opening segment of the show, Big Show explained to us why he helped the man who fired him win at Over The Limit. It was a pretty typical explanation. Big Show wanted his job back. Fans suck. Blah blah blah. But the one thing that everyone seemed to take out of the segment was the HUGE continuity error. John Laurinaitis said he hired Big Show back on Saturday, meaning that he was a WWE employee when he interfered in the John vs. John match, which means that he should be fired. But fuck logic, it’s wrasslin’!
#6. CM Punk/Daniel Bryan segment
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan showed us once again why they should be the main event, instead of Cena and Show. Punk and Bryan stole the show at Over The Limit, and at Raw they managed to put on the most interesting segments of the night. In our first taste of what the Bryan and Punk feud should be, Bryan came out and demanded another match. Punk came out, and the two bickered. But when the best promo man in the company bickers with someone who’s mic skills are better than most, bickering turns into entertainment. It’s no doubt that we will see these two face off again at Over The Limit, and this segment on Raw kicked off the feud that it should’ve been from the start.
#5. Sheamus & John Cena vs. Tensai, Dolph Ziggler, & Jack Swagger
In the first ever 2 on 3 Handicap Lumberjack match, Sheamus, Cena, Tensai, and ZigSwag gave us some nice back and forth action, and a huge in-ring brawl between the face and heels to end the match. Ziggler managed to look like a star again, which is really good considering that he was getting man-handled by Cena and Sheamus for most of the match. We also learned that Lord Tensai has seemed to have lost his lordship, robe, and the WWE’s interest. When WWE changes a character just weeks after debuting, you know something is wrong. But as long as I don;t have to see Tensai that much anymore, I’m fine with it.
#4. CM Punk likes crazy chicks
A lot of people may be scorning me for putting a small backstage segment so high on the list, but this little segment may have been foreshadowing things to come in the Punk/Bryan feud. AJ basically flirted with Punk, started to cry, to which Punk responded with “I kinda dig crazy chicks”. That one line can lead this story into so many different directions. Punk could start a romance with AJ; AJ could fall in love with Punk; she could help Punk retain; she could help Bryan win; she could just be turning into a psychopathic chick who wants to screw over both Punk and Bryan. The possibilities are endless!
#3. CM Punk gives Daniel Bryan a taste of his own medicine
In our third and final Punk/Bryan moment in our list, CM Punk got some revenge on Daniel Bryan. In a very Eddie-Guerrero-esque moment, Punk made Kane catch Bryan with a steel chair, leading Bryan to suffer the same fate that Punk did on Smackdown. But that wasn’t the end of it, as Punk managed to get an Anaconda Vice on Bryan too. The whole segment was done perfectly, and it showed us again why Punk vs. Bryan should be the No Way Out main event.
#2. Big Show hits a garbage can…oops! I mean Cena
After a brawl broke out in the ring, Cena went backstage to find the Big Show for some unexplained reason. After talking to Johnny Ace, Big Show hit Cena. He did hit Cena right? Because it sounded like he hit the garbage can next to him. If you’re going to make a sound, either make a good one, or none at all.
#1. Chris Jericho Codebreaks Randy Orton three times
Many people will probably disagree with me for putting this as number one, but I personally felt like this was the biggest takeaway from Raw. Jericho slipped in during the Orton/Rio match, and gave Orton not one, not two, but three Codebreakers, all while screaming at him about how he was the best in the world. This moment no doubt had the most intensity of the night, and the fact that we are going to get to see a Jericho/Orton feud is reason enough to put it at number one.
