Smackdown produced a decent show this week, and like Raw, it had it’s bright spots and dark spots. It’s time to go over those moments in this week’s top ten moments from Smackdown.
#10. The Usos vs. Darren Young & Titus O’NeilIt looks like the WWE is trying (a little, not a lot) to fix the tag team division, and the Usos and Primetime Players are a good place to start. The two up and coming teams put on a quick match, but it had a lot of nice back and forth action and made each team look like an actual team that wasn’t just thrown together because they had nothing else to do with them (*cough* Kofi and Truth *cough*). Young and Titus got another win, and continue to look strong. It seems as these two are being prepped for either a title shot or a title run, which will obviously have to happen after Truth and Kingston are done with AW’s new stable. By the way, what happened to those guys? They haven’t been on TV for a while. Also, I’m not sure if my hearing is going bad, but did Titus and Darren have different music tonight? If they did, that would be a huge mistake.
#9. Big Show explains his actions…again…Even though I dislike the Show/Cena storyline, I always need to see progression in a feud, bad or good. But what Big Show did tonight wasn’t progressing the story, he was just rehashing what he said on Monday, but this time in a 15 minute segment. I really don’t like this weird non-existant brand extension the WWE has been doing since the summer, but if you’re going to have someone appear on two shows, do it right. Don’t have them repeat themselves and take away a segment from someone who could use it.
#8. Sheamus pushed John Laurinaitis? In what was probably the most random thing in the past few weeks, the WWE decided to make a completely unnoticed incident that was barely addressed on Raw into the main focus on Smackdown. Did anyone else even realize that Sheamus pushed Johnny? I would have been somewhat okay if John did the same thing he did with Big Show and told Sheamus that he would have to apologize to him on Smackdown, but the whole thing kind of came out of nowhere which is not okay in wrestling.
#7. Alberto Del Rio‘s EnzuigirisYa, I know. This isn’t really a moment per say. But come on, those things deserve a shout out! Rio hit a good three or four of those beautiful kicks tonight, and each one was amazing. How can not like Del Rio when he can kick like that?
#6. Brogue Kick of DoomI am the only one who noticed the impact difference between the way Swagger sold the Brogue Kick and the way Sheamus executed it? I’m not saying it was as bad as the infamous “Finger Poke of Doom” incident from WCW. I’m not even saying it was bad. It’s just that Sheamus kind of floated the Brogue Kick, and Swagger took it like a cannon-ball.
#5. Santino Marella vs. Ricardo RodriguezThere are only two people in the WWE who can do comedy properly. Those two are Santino Marella and Ricardo Rodriguez. When the cameras showed that they were getting ready to competed against together, I was ecstatic. When Ricardo came out to his own music and titan tron, I may have pooped myself in excitement. Not only was the match funny (but a little too short), but the fact that Ricardo came out to his own music means that this feud will probably continue, and I am a-okay with that.
#4. Sheamus goes heel on Del RioIn what was another seemingly random and out of nowhere occurrence, Sheamus attacked Alberto Del Rio from behind after he won a #1 contender’s match for the World Heavyweight Championship. There are only a few faces who could pull off doing such a heel thing like that, and Sheamus isn’t really one of them.
#3. Damien Sandow’s debut matchI never thought I could like Damien Sandow more than I already did, but after his match with Yoshi Tatsu, I was proven wrong. The somersaults, the asking of the ref to do his job, the bowing, the cartwheels. I was very curious to see how they would transcend Sandow’s gimmick into the ring, and they did it wonderfully. I am super looking forward to seeing Sandow in an actual feud (Ryback, maybe?), so we can see him at his full potential.
#2. Ryback’s double finisherHow impressive was that? Ryback continues to impress every week, and the double finisher he did on Smackdown did nothing but raise his already high stock. And did you see those clotheslines? There is no possible way that every person he faces can just sell a clothesline like that.
#1. Daniel Bryan attacks KaneIn what I thought was the most surprising moment of the night, Daniel Bryan came out during Kane’s entrance and attacked him with a chair. Daniel Bryan showed us the viciousness he’s been showing us in the past few weeks, and I’m really curious to see what they are doing with Kane in the feud and how they can involve him in the WWE Championship picture. Also, Big Show, Daniel Bryan should be your prime example of how to act on both Raw and Smackdown.
