Last night’s three hour Raw brought us a lot of great moments. We saw the return of a former WCW Champion and the return of Vince McMahon. All in all, I would give last night’s Raw a 7.8/10. First, let’s start off with some stats.
StatsTensai competed in his 10th match of the year in a losing effort against Sheamus
Dolph Ziggler competed in his 35th match of the year in a winning effort against Christian, Jack Swagger, and the Great Khali, earning himself the number one contendership for Sheamus’s World Heavyweight Championship.
Big Show competed in his 35th match of the year in a winning effort against Kofi Kingston in a Steel Cage Match.
Curt Hawkins suffered his 20th loss of the year against Sin Cara.
Heath Slater suffered his 20th loss of the year to Vader.
Now, I present you with the top ten moments from last night’s Raw.
#10. Tensai beats on SakamotoWell that was uncomfortable to watch. Not because Tensai was mercilessly beating on Sakamoto, but because it just went on way too long. WWE has this habit of giving guys way to much time for things that should only take a minutes, and tonight was an example of that. I get that they are trying to get Tensai over with the fans, but do it quicker, okay?
#9. Daniel Bryan confronts Mr. McMahonAm I the only one who felt the tension? In a quick backstage segment, Daniel Bryan and Vince McMahon had a little conversation that brought up to light how Vinny Mac likes to have big guys in the WWE, and not little ones like Bryan. Bryan’s words really felt true and legitimate, and it really seemed like he believed everything he said. Also, McMahon made a sex joke that stemmed from Bryan’s 18 second WrestleMania loss. I’m gonna let you think about that for a moment. Sex. 18 seconds. Mr. McMahon. You’re welcome.
#8. Big Show destroys KofiRemember what I said about giving some guys way to much time? Once again, Big Show wrecked Kofi for a good ten minutes, and it was boring as hell. Not sure why the steel cage was there either. Also, get rid of pinfalls, submissions, and the whole walk through the door to win thing. The only way to win a steel cage match should be to climb over the top.
#7. Opening SegmentWhen Mr. McMahon’s music hit, the Connecticut crowd went nuts. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the chairman of the WWE, and seeing him was a nice treat. Like usual, Vince McMahon was golden on the mic, and like usual, Johnny made a few blunders. But hey, that’s part of Laurinaitis’s charm, isn’t it?
#6. Sheamus vs. TensaiIn what was one of the shockers of the night, Tensai actually put on a good match. Tensai and Sheamus had a pretty awesome match, which is hard to do when both men have hard-hitting brawling styles. Sheamus ended up winning with a Brogue Kick out of nowhere, and Tensai’s WWE push started to slow down with it. Even though I (and many other) really don’t like Tensai, I can’t deny his ability to put on good matches.
#5. Vince gets knocked-outLet’s not focus on the fact that he got knocked-out, let’s focus on the fact that Big Show completely missed him. Did the gust from Show’s arm flap knock him out?
#4. Fatal Four WayMan, that Fatal Four Way was amazing (when it was a Triple Threat at least). After Khali got eliminated by all three men, the match turned into an exciting triple threat, with each man pulling his own in the match. Ziggler (who pinned all three men by the way) won the match, giving a chance to shine against Sheamus, and also further separated him from Swagger and Vickie. He’s probably not going to win on Sunday, but it’s pretty obvious that a big push is in store for the talented show-off. Money In The Bank perhaps?
#3. Punk/Bryan/Kane segmentIn what should be the main event feud, Kane, Bryan, Punk, and AJ all had a really good segment together. Punk proved that he is still the best on the mic, Bryan proved that he’s improving greatly on the mic, and Kane is, well, Kane. Also, Punk gave us a new chant. Goat face.
#2. Vader returnsEven though most of the arena didn’t know who the hell Vader is (damn kids), I, and probably every wrestling fan over 20, popped huge for the man they call Vader. It was pretty obvious that Vader was coming out when Slater started saying “It’s Slater time”, but it was still a huge surprise nonetheless. And Vader still looks pretty damn good (in ring wise) for a guy his age.
#1. AJ makes out with KaneIt what garnered the biggest reaction of the night, AJ leaped into a confused Kane’s arms and made out with him. Kane, like most of us would be, was confused and stunned afterwards, and tagged in Bryan so he could leave. That moment gave even more interest to the WWE Championship match, and the wildcard AJ makes it even more difficult to predict the winner.
