The trailer of the Nitesh Tiwari directed film ‘Dangal’ starring superstar Aamir Khan was launched earlier today, and it is magnificent. The film is a biographical sports drama revolving around Mahavir Singh Phogat and his wrestler daughters, famously known as the Phogat sisters, and Aamir portrays the role of the father.
Mahavir, who hails from Bhiwani district in Haryana, was an amateur wrestler in his early days. He trained his daughters, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, as well as his nieces, to become some of the world’s best wrestlers.
Mahavir broke all social norms by making his daughters wrestle with male wrestlers in his akhara. His fight for his daughters was rewarded when Geeta Phogat won the gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and became the first Indian wrestler to qualify for the Olympics. Babita also achieved success at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she won the gold medal.
Coming to the trailer of the highly awaited film, Aamir breaths life into the character of Mahavir, as is his forte. One complaint that people might have with the trailer is that it seems to revolve around Aamir rather than the two actresses portraying the two sisters in the movie.
In the 3:25-minute trailer, Aamir exemplifies method acting, as he smoothly slips into his character. A man, who is hunted by his own failure to win a gold for the country, yearns for a son to fulfill his dream. He wanted a son because in India, wrestling is a man’s sport and in a small village in Haryana, girls did not wrestle.
However, an incident involving his daughters beating up two guys changes Aamir’s outlook, and he decides to train his daughters. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar, playing the roles of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari respectively, are outstanding in the trailer too.
What makes the trailer a winner is how the two actresses pack a punch with their wrestling moves and strong dialogues. “Pehelwani bahut ho gayi, ab dangal ka time hain,” will give you goosebumps. The trailer itself shows enough promise and it is sure to be unlike Sultan, which starred Salman Khan in the title role. This film is more about wrestling and not about a single larger-than-life character.
In the last few seconds in the trailer, a buffed-up young Aamir flexes his muscles as he enters the wrestling arena, a moment that stands out in the trailer. With the film all set to release on 23 December, 2016, all sports fans and movie buffs in the country would be eagerly waiting for it to release.
