New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Monday flagged off the Tiranga Yatra of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) volunteers to mark India's 70th Independence Day.
The Yatra, which traversed through Chandni Chowk, Town Hall, Nai Sarak, Ajmeri Gate and culminated at Central Park Connaught Place, was organised to pay tribute to those who martyred themselves for the country's freedom and to infuse patriotic fervour in the hearts and minds of the young and children.
Speaking on the occasion, Goel remembered the freedom fighters who had scarified their lives for their motherland.
He called upon youth to understand the role of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Bhagat Singh and others in the freedom struggle and adopt their ideals for nation building.
The NYKS has so far organised 93 Tiranga Yaatras all over the county with participation of more than 70,000 youth.
