Randy Orton, The Legend Killer as we all know him, had to go through a very difficult year of 2012. It started off quite badly for him with a back injury that made him miss the beginning of the year. He then returned to get into a very ordinary feud with Kane. Leave alone the dreary match at Wrestlemania 28, the entire build up to the match lacked lustre.
Things seemed to get worse for Orton as he was then dropped from the lead role of The Marine: Homefront, which is the third instalment of the military-theme movie of the WWE. The main reason behind this is the complaint lodged by Cpl Mike Vinn of the United States Marine Corps about Randy’s dishonourable discharge from the USMC in the year 1999. This led to him being replaced by The Miz later on. Though, you would have expected Randy to react to this decision calmly, he went on to use twitter as a means of bashing Cpl. Mike Vinn.
To make matters worse, Orton then was suspended for 60 days due to a violation in WWE’s drug policy which made him miss several important events in WWE including the 1000th episode of the Raw. The thing that Randy has to be careful about now is that if he fails another drug test, he will be fired at least for a year. This is where WWE will have problems pushing him as they will have less trust on him. So what does the future hold for The Viper?
Acting looks like an important part of Orton’s life now as he seems to be another wrestler aspiring to become an actor. ’12 Rounds: Reloaded’ which is a sequel to the 12 Rounds straight-to-DVD movie of WWE studios, has signed Orton to star as EMT who will be targeted by a criminal frenetic and made to go through 12 tasks that are gruesome and dangerous. Well, it is quite obvious that the WWE wants Randy to use this as an opportunity to make up for losing the role in The Marine. Orton might have to miss a few TV shows for the filming of this movie and this justifies the reason why he has not been pushed for the title race yet.
Despite talks of the WWE not having a lot of trust on Randy, there aren’t a lot of signs that indicate this. Orton has been pushed as a big star and has been in the storyline along with Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio. He has been constantly exposed to the masses. Though things aren’t as bright as they used to be, Randy still enjoys a lot of top class treatment from the company.
Orton’s success in the film industry will determine which way he might lean. But for now, it would be wise for Orton to stick to the WWE and look for a better feud with a credible superstar in the roster today.
